The conversion of molecules X to Y follows second order kinetics. If the concenration of X is increased to three times, how will it affect the rate of formation of Y ? Select the correct answer from above options

Correct Answer - Rate of formation of Y will increase by 9 times For second order kinetics, the rate law is : r1=Rate1=k[X]2…..(i) If the concentration of X is increased to 3 times, i.e.,[3X], then rate (r2) will be r2=k[3X]2 9k[X]2….(ii) ∴ r2 r1 = 9k[X]2 k[X]2 =9 ∴r2=9r1 Thus, the rate of reaction will becomes 9 times. Hence, the rate of formation of Y will increases 9 times.
